Legacy? Or Revisionism?

There's a word that seems to have inched its way into our language within the last few years or so, that is being used incorrectly. that word which i speak of is "legacy." no doubt you've heard that word too, as it is used over and over and over again by media & press, sometimes a little too much, in describing what a dead celebrity's or person's legacy will be. the word legacy comes from Latin, meaning to bequeath: a gift of property by will or a gift of personal property. In an average English dictionary, it's defined as something handed down from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past. well, it seems a little odd that a person leaves anything behind other than the acts they committed during their lifetime & their lifeless human flesh. besides, they did all that they did during their lifetime. not a whole lot is going to be accomplished in death, other than decomposition of their flesh and bones. but legacy is a misused word & it seems to have been adopted and well-liked, enough so, that everybody uses the word, even if it is wrong. but wrong is what is right in the world today. it will continue onward to no end. kind of like those who continue to revise history, but that's another story altogether. or is it? what legacy will revisionist historians leave behind? not much i bet, except for lots of good bits left on the cutting room floor.
